Loma Alta Press
Having been passionate about history, art history, and the natural sciences my entire life; having been deeply involved in teaching and educational outreach; and having long experience in both business and the nonprofit world, it seemed logical to start my own publishing company so that my own first book would be produced to the highest standards, and be both beautiful and affordable. My background includes a stint in graphic design and architectural photography, so from the outset I knew what I wanted, just not how to convince a big publishing house to do it my way.

I was fortunate to meet and work with Lillian Santamaria, the former owner of Northland Press here in Flagstaff, who acted as my consultant as I worked long and hard to self-publish On a Mission. She connected me with a top book designer who has produced over 350 beautiful volumes, a professional editor and indexer with years of experience in the nonfiction genre, and a fabulous printing company located right here in the United States.

When the book turned out even better than we could have hoped, I was told, "you should do this." Then I started to hear from my network of friends and acquaintances who share a passion for history, travel, and nature—and found that a number of them had written books but were at a loss to have them published the "right way."

So I created Loma Alta Press, named after one of the beautiful high points in the Santa Ynez Mountains of Santa Barbara County, which I've been lucky enough to ascend on horseback with a group of riding friends, the Santa Barbara Sage Hens. The view from there is peaceful, inspirational, and thought-provoking—just as I hope all the books published by Loma Alta Press will be.
